Scarves are always a popular accessory - they're a great way to add a touch of colour or pattern to an outfit. Plus they're hugely versatile. But it can be a struggle to think of new ways to wear one, and tying it several times around the neck can look dated and a little air-stewardess-y. So here are 4 modern, flattering suggestions for some inspiration:

1. The Knotted Necklace

This is a cool, sophisticated alternative to wearing a statement necklace, and looks particularly effective with a patterned silk scarf. Simply fold in half, tie knots into the scarf at your preferred intervals and tie together at the back of your neck. Quick and easy.

2. The Belted Drape

This chic style is particularly effective for creating a waist. The scarf will lengthen your body, whilst the belt nips you in at the waist. Wear against a plain black top for a particularly sliming look.

3. The Lengthening Loop

This style is another quick and flattering style as it will lengthen your face. To create it, fold in half, add a knot 1/3 of the way along and then fasten at the back.

4. The Twist

I love using pashminas as scarves in the winter. If you're looking to change up the way you wear your warm scarf out and about this winter, try this twisted style. Step 1: Start with this classic shape. 2. Take one side and wrap it around the loop until only the ends hang down (whether you wrap it over the top or under first will depend on the length of your scarf). 3. Repeat with the other side.
