When we first discovered Gibson & Birkbeck, we were beyond excited. Finally a cool, modern shirt label featuring beautiful prints, specially for women. So we sat down with Katie Gibson to chat about style and working with The-Bias-Cut.com
Who is the woman you design for?
We have tried to create a versatile shirt that suits all women no matter what shape or background they have. Our shirt block is simple and clean cut. You can wear it loose and relaxed with boyfriend jeans at the weekend or try going down a size for a more fitted workwear look with a tailored suit.
What are the inspirations behind your pieces?
Our shirt block was designed to be one shirt does all, smart, casual, country, classic and urban chic. Our prints are where the versatility really comes into place there is a design/colour to suit every woman’s wardrobe.
What is the ethos behind your label?
G&B’s core values are to produce good quality, stylish, fun, intriguing wardrobe staples for the discerning individual. A classic white shirt, with a twist. Something you can wear in a myriad of different ways.
What does 'style' mean to you?
Style is creating your own distinctive look. It is how you wear an item, what you team it with that no one else would. It is when you feel as good as you look. A shirt you can mix and match with loads of other pieces in your wardrobe and every time you put it on you can create a new distinctive look.
In an industry primarily focused on the 20-something customer, what is your view on ageless style?
We do classic white shirts with timeless unique prints. They suit everyone from 18-80 at G&B we don’t think fashion should date, which is why we designed our shirts to transcend fashions and avoid age brackets. When I am designing the range I always ask my younger sister and my mothers opinions. In fact quite a few of our customers are mothers and daughters; they will go for different prints and they will both have a different take on styling their shirts but they both will look fantastic!
